C. Smith of Verda, died Decemger 30 in the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria. She was stricken with appendicitis on Christmas cay and was rushed to the hospital where an operation was performed, and hopes for her recovery were sustained until her death some days later. Iris was a graduate of Atlanta High School, graduating with the class of 1930, and was at the time of her death a student at the Louisiana State Normal College. She was a member of the Verda Baptist Church and was known among friends and classmates to be a Christian character. Interment was made in the Iatt Cemetery, Rev. Foster conducting. Besides a host of friends and many relatives, she is survived by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Smith, Verda; two sisters, Avis Smith of Natchitoches and Beryl Smith, Verda; two brothers, Willard and Walter Smith, Verda.
