She is at Rest.
     Mrs. Matilda Smith, nee Craft, died July 14, 1906, at her home near
Winnfield, in the 87th year of her age.  She was born in Smith County,
Mississippi, July 6, 1819, but moved to this country many years ago,
making her home in the community where she died.
     Mrs. Smith was one of the pioneer settlers of this parish.  She
reared a large family, all of whom survive her except J. L. Smith.
     Mrs. Smith united with the Baptist church at Corinth, five miles
south of Winnfield, in 1861, and since lived a zealous christian life. 
Her deeds of charity and ministration knew no bounds.  About a year ago
she was stricken with paralysis, finally succumbing.  In all her
sufferings she was uncomplaining and resigned to the Master's will,
having that faith which takes away the fear of death.

(NOTE: Matilda Smith is in the Winn Census 1860 thru 1900. Her husband
was Jas. M. Smith, b. in MS. In 1860 their children were Patrick,
Spencer M., Louisia, Clerrinda, George D., James L., and Charles. In
1900 Matilda Smith was living in the household of Spenser M. Smith and
his family in Ward #1. The 1900 Winn Census states that her parents were
born in KY.)
