All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 3, 1952 Winn Parish Enterprise Mrs. Charley Smith Dies at Her Home In Jordan Hill Mrs. Farlene Jordan Smith, 65, wife of Charley Smith of the Jordan Hill Community, died at her home Thursday, June 26, 1952, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were conducted June 28 at 11 a.m. at the Big Creek Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member, with Rev. H. J. Mott and Rev. Albert Nugent officiating. Burial was in the Jordan Hill Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Nephews of Mrs. Smith acted as pallbearers: Harvie Jordan, Owen Jordan, Walter Jordan, Clayton Jordan, Ellis Jordan, and Richard Atwell. Born April 11, 1887, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Jordan. She spent her entire life in the Jordan Hill community. She was a devoted Christian and was an active member of the adult training union and WMU. She was married to Mr. Smith March 7, 1907, who survives her. Also surviving are four sons, Murray of Baton Rouge; Grady of Midland, Texas; Lloyd of Dodson; and Woodie of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Otis Machen of Winnfield; four brothers, Joe, Ervin, and Lawrence of Jordan Hill; Lonnie of Midland, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. Linnie Atwell, Mrs. Rena Maxey, and Mrs. Florence Rosier, all of Jordan Hill, and Mrs. Julia Boyett of Springhill. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of relatives.
