He leaves a wife and seven children and two brothers to mourn his death, besides a host of friends. Mr. Smith was born in the State of Mississippi but moved to this parish in early life and has made his home here ever since, except during the civil war when he was a member of company C, 12th Louisiana regiment. He served with that command until their surrender at Greensborough, North Carolina. After the surrender he came back to Winn and shortly after married Miss Rhody Murrel, of which union were born ten children, three of whom preceded him. He was a member of David Pierson Camp No. 1603 U. C. V. and of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151 of Masons. He was buried at an old family graveyard near Corinth Church by the members of his lodge with Masonic honors. The service by W. F. Casper, W. M. of Eastern Star Lodge No. 151, was most impressive. There were fully two hundred people at the funeral. Dr. S. M. Smith and James Smith are his brothers who survive him. The Sentinel extends sincere condolence to the bereaved family. >This was taken from the files of The Southern Sentinel, June 17, 1908. Submitted by: E.
