Smith, 83, died Monday, Nov. 9, in Columbia, following a lengthy illness. A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Smith had made her home in Winn Parish with her sister, Mrs. Clara McMurry, in the Colgrade community, for many years until a little over three months ago when she went to Columbia to resided in a nursing home after she had broken a limb. She was a member of the Old Union Church of Joyce. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southern Funeral Home with the Rev. J. O. Enterkin officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Allie Henry of Orange, Texas, Mrs. R. D. McDaniel of Woodville, Texas, Mrs. Leroy Poole of Olla, and Mrs. Annie DeVaughan of Sacremento, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Clara McMurry of Winnfield, Mrs. Lee Adams of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Dewey Hinton of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. Dossey Montgomery of Provencal; four brothers, Grady Collins of Winnsboro, Dr. S. A. Collins of Monroe, Jim Collins of Winnfield, and Julius Beard of Stonewall; 20 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
