Smith, 58, former Winn Parish resident, were held at the Winnfield First Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday morning, April 15, with the Rev. Fred S. Flurry and Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Smith, a machinist by trade, passed away at his home in Houston, Texas, on Monday, April 12, after a short illness. He was born at Colfax on February 24, 1890 and was reared and educated in Grant Parish. He lived at Atlanta in Winn Parish for about eight years in the early 1900s. Mr. Smith had made his home in Houston for the past 20 years where he was employed at a machine shop. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Olene Smith of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. K. A. Thomas of Winnfield, Mrs. C. O. Holland of Atlanta, and Mrs. Bessie Bufkin of Elizabeth, La.; and three brothers, Luther of Darnell, La., Nape of Verda, and Bryant of Houston, Texas. Nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers.
