John Bird Smith, 83 Years, Dies Friday Night

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Southern Funeral Home
for John Bird Smith, 83 year old resident of Winn Parish.  He died in Ward 10
Friday.  Rev. Alwin Stokes officiated and interment was held in the Zion Hill
Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a farmer in Ward Seven for a number of years.  He was the son of
the late Joe Smith, one time deputy sheriff of Winn Parish.  Mr. Smith's wife,
Mary Warner Smith, died five years ago.

Surviving the deceased are two sons, Luther Smith of Baton Rouge and Joe Smith
of Tullos; one daughter, Mrs. Chris Sanders, Hudson; one brother, Martin
Smith, of Goldonna, and twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
