Smith Of Dodson Succumbs Friday, July 28 Was S. S. Superintendent And Bible Teacher For 35 Years J. G. Smith, 69 years, five months and thirteen days of age, a member of an esteemed Dodson family, succumbed at his home Friday night, at 1:30, following an illness for the past two years and his condition recently became critical. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. J. B. Milam, Jr., of Ruston; Mrs. Lonnie Jones of Birmingham, Ala.; Mrs. G. W. Smith of Alexandria; Mrs. Conley Terrel of Dodson; four sons, H. G. Smith, Dodson; Stanley Smith, Winnfield; Verne Smith of Tullos and Harold Smith of New Orleans; six grandchildren and four brothers, Eric and George Smith of Winnfield, Jay Smith of St. Louis, Mo., M. R. Payne of Dodson. At an early age, Mr. Smith became a Christian and ever lived up to the teaching of same. He enrolled with the Methodist Protestant Church and was true and faithful until death. He was superintendent of the adult Bible class of the Methodist Protestant Church during the past 35 years. During all these years of devotion and untiring service, he was seldom absent from duty and always looked forward with pleasure and anticipation to these occasions. The body lay in state at the M. P. Church from Saturday at 4 p.m. until Sunday at 10 a.m. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. F. Wade of Magnolia, Ark., Rev. D. D. Boddie of Hodge, and Rev. J. F. Corley of Chatham. Interment was in the cemetery at New Hope. Pallbearers were B. M. Feazell, A. L. Mixon, L. L. Lee, W. J. Pyburn, J. H. Barr, Albert Waller, L. J. Stovall, and W. G. Walker.
