Smith, 93, who died at his home near Sikes, Friday night, October 24, 1941, was buried in the family cemetery Sunday following funeral services attended by scores of relatives and friends. Last June, he, his brother, John, 97, and his sister, Mrs. Anne Campbell, 95, were given a birthday celebration by the Sikes community which was attended by several hundred relatives and friends. The deceased was the youngest of the elderly trio. He always took an active interest in the affairs of his community and state. For many years he was a rural mail carrier and police juror from his ward. He is survived by scores of relatives in Winn and other sections of Louisiana. Congressman A. Leonard Allen, soon after the birthday celebration, held this June in honor of these three aged brothers and sister, stated on the floor of Congress that their combined ages according to available census records was greater than any other three brothers and sisters in the United States. He used their long lives as an example of the healthful conditions existing in this section after charges had been made that Louisiana would not be suitable for the maneuvers due to its swamp lands.
