All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 15, 1925 Winn Parish Enterprise Confederate Veteran Passes Away Mr. Philip Smith, Confederate Veteran, and for many years prominent citizen of Winnfield, died at his home here Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock from an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Smith was born in Goodwater, Ga., in 1840. He was married to Miss Louvenia Hyde in 1874. Eight children, seven girls and one boy were born to them, his wife and five children still surviving him. They are: Mrs. A. L. McDonald, Winnfield; Mrs. V. W. Cain, Wichita Falls, Texas; Mrs. Charlie Bullard, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Alfred Goodwin, Colfax, La.; Mrs. Douglas Smith, Pine Bluff, Ark. Mr. Smith, notwithstanding his advanced age, was always in a good mood, and was known by everybody as "Uncle Philip." He joined the Methodist Church at Montgomery, La., many years ago and was a loyal member until his death. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church, the pastor, Rev. P. M. Caraway, assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery.
