E. Smith, Sr. James Edward Smith, Sr., 58, of Winnfield, died of a heart attack at his home on Lafayette Street at 5:15 Tuesday afternoon, February 11, 1947. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in the Southern Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Alwin Stokes conducted the final service. Active pallbearers were J. J. Crippen, Horace Turner, Jesse Boyett, Buddy Dalby, Teal Calhoun, Eli Harrell, Orvil Spikes, and Lee McGuffee. Mr. Smith was born at Leaderville, Mo., May 1, 1888 and was the son of W. H. Smith and Ellen Williams Smith. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was affiliated with the Oddfellows organization. Mr. Smith was a trucker by profession having engaged in that business for a number of years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pauline Hutchinson Smith; three sons, W. H. Smith of Alexandria, E. F. Smith and J. E. Smith, Jr., of Winnfield; one brother, D. A. Smith of Monroe; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Vogleman and Mrs. Addie Johnston, of Little Rock, Ark., and Miss Myrtle Smith of Miami, Fla., and two grandchildren. Funeral services were under direction of Southern Funeral Home.
