Smith, 64, who died in a Winnfield hospital Jan. 20 following a heart attack the day before, were held in the Big Creek Baptist Church Saturday afternoon. Officiating were Rev. Louis Williams, Rev. Waynon Mott, and Rev. L. G. Mabry. Burial was in the Jordan Hill Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Shirley Jackson, Charlie Ray, Russell Tullos, Louis James, Clyde Smith of Winnsboro, and Alson Smith of Houston, Texas. Born Sept. 18, 1891, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Smith of Jordan Hill. A veteran of World War One, he served in France where he was wounded. Mr. Smith was a devoted Christian, having served as Sunday School teacher, Bible teacher, and was active in the Brotherhood. He was a member of the Big Creek Church. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Annie Moore; one son, Utley Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Melba Memminger of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Lelia Bell Maxey of Tullos; one brother, Riley Smith, Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Bulah Jordan, Jordan Hill; Mrs. Lou Wilder, Bastrop; and five grandchildren.
