A. Sookul of Winnfield, at the local cemetery Monday afternoon. Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian pastor, and Prof. Sax and Dr. F. O. Adams of Louisiana Tech spoke the last words over the body. Student friends served as pallbearers. She is survived by her parents and an aunt, Mrs. Margaret Shuman of Denver, Colo. Auto Wreck Miss Sookul's death resulted from internal injuries and shock sustained when she was riding with a young man, George Barnes, Jr., of Magnolia, Ark., on the road from Dodson towards Winnfield, and the coupe Barnes was driving collided with two trucks. The accident occurred a few minutes after 9 o'clock Friday night on the long curve in the road seven and one-half miles out from Winnfield. Barnes' automobile sideswiped a gravel truck driven by W. W. Hale of Minden, just north of the railway underpass in the curve, and before the coupe stopped ran head on into a large trailer-truck. Barnes and Miss Sookul were pryed from the car, which was smashed beyond repair by the collision, and carried to the Mosley Clinic. Miss Sookul revived shortly when removed from the car, told those who came to their aid her and Barnes' identity, lapsed into unconsciousness, died on the way to the clinic. Shock and internal injuries are reported the cause of death. Barnes received skull, leg, and internal injuries. He was taken from the local clinic to the Huey P. Long hospital in Pineville, and died as he arrived there at 12:51 p.m. (a.m.?) Barnes was store manager of the Magnolia, Ark., branch of Wilson Supply company. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nadie Warren, two sisters and two brothers, who live in Haynesville. Funeral services for Barnes were held at the First Baptist Church in Magnolia, after which the body was sent to his home town in Alabama. Met Barnes Friday Miss Sookul had met Barnes by accident in the afternoon of Friday. She is a summer school student at Louisiana Tech, and usually rides between her and Ruston on the student bus. Friday afternoon, however, she missed the return bus, but caught a ride home with Barnes. The young man returned by her home later in the day and asked her to go with him for a ride. They went to Dodson, stopped at a cafe, and on the way back the fatal accident occurred. Miss Sookul was born of Lithuanian parentage in Dodson of April 22, 1917. Her father is a tailor, and the family has lived in Winnfield for the past ten years. She was the only child. Brilliant Student She was a straight A pupil in school, graduating in the Winnfield High School class of 1937 as the "most intelligent" student, extracurricula editor of the class annual, Tiger Rag, and officer in the debate club. At Tech, Miss Sookul had contributed to the Tech Review, literary magazine, was a reporter for the Tech Talk, and had been elected president of Sigma Tau Delta, honorary literary fraternity, for the next year. She was majoring in English, and would have graduated at the end of the next regular semester. Serving as pall bearers at the funeral were Joe Beville, Cliff Burnett, Roy Martin, Marlin Connor, R. C. Fletcher, and Donald Boyett. Article 2 Suit For $ 49,437 Filed by Mr. and Mrs. Sookul Suit Filed in Federal Court By Parents of Aldonza Sookul; Killed Last July 26 Suit for $ 49,437 damages for the death of their daughter, Aldonza, in an automobile accident was filed last Saturday in federal district court by Mr. and Mrs. Kozimieras S. Sookul of Winnfield against an oilfield supply company and an insurance company. The accident that took the life of the girl and her companion occurred last July 26 between Winnfield and Dodson at the Rock Island overpass. In their petition Mr. and Mrs. Sookul assert that their daughter was fatally injured July 26 near Winnfield while a guest in a car owned by the Wilson Supply Company, for which St. Paul Indemnity Company was an insurer. The daughter, Miss Aldonza Sookul, a brilliant student at Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, was an only child. The parents ask a judgment for $ 437 to cover funeral expenses and $ 49,000 for loss of companionship, love and prospective support. Article 3 Sookuls Settle Out Of Court For Daughter's Death Compromise For $ 5,500 Is Reached By Parties April 22 Mr. and Mrs. Kozimieras S. Sookul, who last November filed suit in district federal court, New Orleans against the Wilson Oil Field Supply co., of El Dorado and the St. Paul Indemnity Company seeking payment of $ 49,437 damages for the death of their daughter, Aldonza, this week, announced that they had compromised out of couirt with the Wilson Company for $ 5,500. The agreement was reached between the parents of the dead girl and the company April 22. The accident that took the life of Aldonza Sookul, brilliant Tech student, occurred last July 26 between Winnfield and Dodson at the Rock Island overpass. In the petition filed in district court, the parents claimed that their daughter was fatally injured while a guest in a car owned by the supply company. Her companion, an employee of the company, was also killed.
