All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: July 1, 1948, Winn Parish Enterprise Last Rites For Mrs. Anna Sowers Conducted Monday Funeral sevices were conducted at the Winnfield First Baptist Church at 4:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. June 28, for Mrs. Anna Newsom Sowers, 91 year-old native of Winn Parish who succumbed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Erskins in Sikes about 8 o'clock Sunday night, June 27. Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the local church, conducted the final rites. Burial was in the Winnfield cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Sowers was born in Winn Parish on September 22, 1857. Except for a six year period when she resided in Texas, Mrs. Sowers had always made her home in Winn Parish. She was the widow of the late N. C. Sowers of the Shady Grove community near Sikes, and had been a member of the Baptist Church for many years. Surviving are three sons, G. R. Sowers of West Monroe, J. N. Sowers, and E. H. Sowers of Winnfield; two daughters Mrs. C. J. Erskins and Mrs. Cora Abrams of Sikes; one brother H. L. Newsom of Delhi; one sister, Mr. C. C. Jarrell of Columbia. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers who were grandsons of Mrs. Sowers were Leo Sowers, J. C. Allbritton, Morris Abrams, W. C. Abrams, Waymon Erskins and Otis Sowers.
