All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 5, 1958 Winn Parish Enterprise News-Americans Mrs. Ellen Sowers Funeral Services To Be Held Friday Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen James Sowers, 83, will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Sowers passed away Thursday at 2:10 a.m. in a local hospital after an illness of several weeks. Dr. W. L. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist Church of which she was a member will conduct the funeral. Mrs. Sowers was born January 29, 1875 in Ward Three of Winn Parish, being 83 years, four months, and six days old. Her parents were the late Christian and Sarah Elizabeth Sills James, both natives of Lawrence County, Mississippi. She was the widow of the late William Monroe Sowers, native of Winn Parish, who preceded her in death March 12, 1911. They were married in Winn Parish September 30, 1900, and were the parents of six children, two of whom are deceased. Survivors are two daughters, Miss Ether Sowers and Mrs. A. K. Overby of Winnfield; two sons, W. L. "Buck" Sowers of Winnfield and John Sowers of Port St. Joe, Florida; one brother, Jesse James of Oak Grove; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
