Douglas H. Sowers Is Fourth Killed In Korean War Pvt. Doulgas Hershal Sowers, 22, was killed in action in Korea on February 1, 1953, according to a war department telegram this week to his mother, Mrs. Maudy Sowers of Sikes. Pvt. Sowers was on ground patrol duty at the time he was killed. He enlisted on October 10, 1951, and went overseas in June of 1951. (Apparent error here on the dates) In July, he was sent to the front lines and had been in action since that date. He was serving with the 25th Infantry Division. Pvt. Sowers if the fourth Winn Parish soldier killed in the Korean action. Others killed are Sgt. Robert Lee Hammonds, of Winnfield; Pvt. Edgar Bishop, of Gaar's Mill, and Pvt. Henry Brew, colored, of Winnfield. Clifton Weyerman, son of Ethel Ingles, has been missing since 1951. He is survived by one sister, Helen Thompson, of Sikes, and his mother, Mrs. Maudy Sowers.
