Friday in the chapel of Southern with Bishops Bob Taylor and Loy Gaar officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield City Cemetery. Mrs. Speed, 88, of Winnfield, died at 7:15 p. m. Wednesday, March 2, 1988, in Humana Hospital. She was a native of Arkansas and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include four sons, Walter Speed of Winnfield, James Speed of Van Horn, Texas, Veldon Speed of Delta Junction, Alaska, and Wallace Speed of Cypress, Calif.; six daughters, Nettie Hand, Loretta Howard and Hollis Johnson, all of Winnfield, Myrtle Huey of Choudrant, Edith Keith of Coushatta, And Ruth Dorn of Lincoln, Neb.; one stepbrother, Clint Hamm of Alexandria; one sister-in-law, Edna Lawrence of Winnfield; 55 grandchildren, 78 great- grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. (Note: Mrs. Speed's full name was Dessie Orpha Lawrence Speed.)
