The accident occurred as the car, driven by Johnnie Phillips, Negro, passed a woodloaded truck on a downhill grade, had a blow out on the left rear whell, and turned over several times. Spencer, the only white person in the car, was sitting on the back seat with Dewey Penneywell, Negro youth, and 14 year old Negro girl. He was carried from the wreck to the home of Charlie Durham at Atlanta, and was later brought to Winnfield, but died enroute to town. Spencer, it was said, lived alone, in the Pennywell community near Atlanta. The accident was investigated by the sheriff and coroner and was reported unavoidable. Funeral services for the aged man, a native of Webster Parish, were held at the Iatt Cemetery Tuesday. He is survived by two brothers, W. S. Spencer of Verda and E. A. Spencer of Colfax, and a niece, Mrs. Tide Colwell of Winnfield.
