W. D. Sherwood for Levi Marion Spikes, well known and loved Winn Parish pioneer, who died suddenly at his home Jan. 4. Mr. Spikes, apparently in splendid health, was seized with an attack of acute indigestion and lived just a short time, leaving four children, a number of grandchildren, and a host of friends who will mourn his passing. He was born and reared near Atlanta, but thirty-nine years ago, moved to the Sardis Community and became one of its foremost citizens and active church member, who at the time of his death was a deacon of the Baptist Church. Two months previous, Mrs. Spikes' death occurred, and her passing so grieved her companion, that it is believed by many of his friends to have hastened his death. Many of his neighbors remarked at his death that he was a good neighbor, a good friend, and a good Christian. He leaves several half brothers and sisters, besides four children, who are: Mrs. J. Ed Woodard, of Hanna, La.; Mrs. J. B. Smith and Mr. Woodard Spikes, Sardis, and Mrs. V. A. Bethea, Atlanta. Interment was made in the Sardis Cemetery.
