N. Spikes Dies; Rites Held At Sardis Woodard Neal Spikes, 79, of Winnfield, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, January 26, 1975 at his residence after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church near here with the Revs. C. D. Bates and Louis B. Williams officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Winnfield. A retired millwright, Mr. Spikes was a native of Atlanta. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ella Spikes of Winnfield; three sons, E. M. Spikes of West Monroe, C. O. Spikes of Atlanta, and James W. Spikes of Winnfield; eight daughters, Mrs. Rolene Strickland and Mrs. Billie Nelson, both of Winnfield, Mrs. Georgia Lashley of Denham Springs, Mrs. Lucille Box of Colfax, Mrs. Elaine Driggers of Pineville, Mrs. Llewelyn Gorham of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Linda Gilbert of Goliad, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Woodard and Mrs. Zula Smith, both of Winnfield, and Mrs. Lula Bethea of Hansville, Wash.; 38 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Grandsons of the deceased served as pallbearers.
