All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 6, 1941 Winn Parish Enterprise Body of Boy Who Drowned Jan. 26 Buried At Corinth Last Rites Held For Marvin Spillers, 17 Marvin Spillers, 17 year old son of Mrs. Bernice Porter, was drowned in a creek near Crocket Springs, Texas, Sunday, January 26, and his body was recovered Tuesday, February 4, and brought to the Corinth Cemetery, where interment was made Wednesday, February 5. Rev. W. D. Sherwood was in charge of the services. Young Spillers and two companions had gone hunting and were returning to their home when Spillers decided to go swimming. He dove into the creek, which proved to be shallow, and before his companions realized he was drowning, the swift current had swept his body out of sight into the deeper part of the creek. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Bernice Porter, of Crocket Springs, Texas, two brothers, Lloyd Spillers of Crocket Springs and Floyd Spillers of Barksdale Field, a half-brother, Horace Porter of Winnfield, a sister, Lillian Spillers of Crocket Springs, Texas, and an uncle, Ibzen Porter, of Georgetown. He is distantly related to Grady Spillers and his family of Winnfield.
