Gordon Stewart Succumbs. A. Gordon Stewart, a retired lumber salesman and Secretary of the Winn Parish Chamber of Commerce died Thursday evening in his home after a long illness. Services for the 75 year old Stewart were held Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Winnfield. Rev. Keith Hill and Grayson Watson officiated with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery of Winnfield under direction of Southern Funeral Home. A long time resident of Winnfield, Stewart was born in New Orleans on March 31, 1906. He was a wholesale lumber salesman for Tremont Lumber Company and Walker Brothers Lumber Company of Huntsville, Texas. Upon his retirement in 1976, he returned to Winnfield and in 1978 was named Secretary of the Winn Parish Chamber of Commerce. An Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield, Stewart was a veteran of World War II. Since his return to Winn Parish, Stewart had been active in many civic and community affairs. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Polly Stewart of Winnfield; one son, John Stewart of Houston, Tex.; one daugther, Sharon Brian of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Inglis of Leesville; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dan Bowker, Scotty Maxwell, Arie Hughes, James Wheat, J. M. Cole, and George Harrison.
