At Siloam Cemetery Funeral services for Morris Dale Stephens, 29 year old Jonesboro man who was instantly killed Tuesday afternoon, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church in Jonesboro with the Rev. Bill Moore, the Rev. Warren Newsom, and the Rev. Louis Moffett officiating. Burial was in the Siloam Cemetery at Gansville, Winn Parish, under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Stephens was the brother of Mrs. Eva Brewton and of J. B. Stephens, both of Route 1, Goldonna, Winn Parish. He was working on a sewage construction project when dirt in a ditch caved in on him. It took six workers approximately 45 minutes to remove him from the ditch, located on a street near Continental Can in North Hodge. The Jackson Parish coroner said death was caused from internal injuries. Stephens was almost completely buried by the dirtslide. He leaves his wife, two sons, one daughter, and his mother, Mrs. A. M. Stephens, all of Jonesboro, and a number of brothers and sisters besides the two in Winn Parish.
