All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: December 22, 1938 Winn Parish Enterprise Death Claims Frances Faith Smith Funeral Services Will Be Held Friday, 3 P.M. at Methodist Church Death claimed Mrs. Frances Faith Smith, member of a prominent Winn Parish family at her home here Thursday night, December 22, at 7:30 o'clock, after a long illness. She was 88 years, 7 months, and 23 days of age. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. G. A. Morgan in charge. He will be assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian pastor. Interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. Born near Atlanta, Georgia, April 29, 1850, Mrs. Smith moved to the Gaars Mill Community with her parents, James and Elizabeth Faith in the year 1857. They were among the early settlers of that community and took a leading part in the development of that section and the parish. Frances Faith was married to William Austin Smith, July 13, 1871 and they moved to Winnfield in 1896. Here Mr. Smith engaged in the newspaper business and later served as postmaster of Winnfield. During his lifetime he was also justice of the peace and served one term as assessor of Winn Parish. Eight children were born to this union. Mr. Smith preceded his wife in death on October 9, 1921. At an early age in life Mrs. Smith became a member of the Methodist Church. She survived all her generation of her family being the last to be claimed by death. She leaves three sons, George E. Smith and Eric Smith of Winnfield and Jay Smith of St. Louis. Also surviving are a grandson, Grady Colwell of Shreveport, a granddaughter of Alexandria, and three grandchildren, who are the children of Jay Smith in St. Louis. J. G. Smith of Dodson is a stepson.
