All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 21, 1963 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Mrs. Minnie Stone Dies At The Age Of 101 Here Feb. 17 Mrs. Minnie Lewis Stone, 101 years of age on her birthday July 22, 1962, and oldest resident of Winn Parish, died at her home in Winnfield early Sunday, February 17, after a brief illness. A native of Cypress Creek community, Ward Four, she was the daughter of the late James W. Lewis and Miss Barnes, early settlers in this area. She has been a resident of Winnfield since 1920, and when she became 100 years old, the Mayor declared her birthday as "Minnie Stone Day in Winnfield". She was a member of Palestine Chapter No. 55, Order of Eastern Star, and of the First Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in the Siloam Baptist Church, with Rev. Louis Moffett, Dr. W. L. Holcomb, and Rev. R. B. Kitchingham officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Grandsons served as pallbearers. They were E. D. Stone, Barton Stone, Jr., H. O. Moore, Louis Moore, Melvin Echols, and Odis Dickinson. Survivors include two sons, Thomas S. Stone of Waveland, Miss., and B. W. Stone of New London, Tex.; four daughters, Mrs. Josie Dickinson of Shreveport, Mrs. Eunice B. Shannon of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Myrtice Moore of Jonesboro, and Miss May Stone of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Ollie Wilson of Shreveport; and 25 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren.
