All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: November 22, 1972 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Mrs. Stovall, 81, Passed Away; Rites Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Thera Nicholson Stovall, 81, were November 21st, 1972, at the First United Methodist Church, Winnfield, with Rev. James C. Skinner and Rev. Calvin Phelps officiating. Interment was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mrs. Stovall was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1891. She was the daughter of Col. James William Nicholson, well known mathematician, author, and twice president of Louisiana State University. She was one of the first seven women admitted to the university, which was formerly an all-military school. Mrs. Stovall was honored as a member of this class in 1956 on the fiftieth anniversary of co-education at L. S. U. Mrs. Stovall was a resident of Dodson for many years where she was a memgber of the Dodson High School faculty and later became postmistress and in this capacity she served until retirement at which time she moved to Winnfield and became a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. L. L. Brewton, Sr., Winnfield, and Mrs. Troy L. Stearns, East Lansing, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Armand P. Daspit, Baton Rouge, and two grandchildren, Mrs. James Jarrett, Orlando, Florida, and Miss Bitsy Jensen, Winnfield. Pallbearers included Dudley Shell, James Russell, Earl Denning, L. L. Brewton, Jr., Tom Hale, G. E. Brewton. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. J. E. Caldwell, C. L. Frazier, R. E. Howard, Harley Womack, Henry Kornegay, Dickie Heard, Harwell Allen, Clayton Norred, James Nicholson.
