F. Strickland of Wheeling Claimed By Death Friday Father of J. E. Strickland, Police Juror From Ward 5 James F. Strickland, better known as "Uncle Jim" died last Friday morning at Epps while visiting in the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. C. May. His remains were brought to his home at Wheeling and funeral services were held at Mt. Zion Church with interment in the church cemetery Saturday afternoon conducted by the Rev. J. L. Jones and Rev. Mrs. D. O. Wardlow. Mr. Strickland was born in Georgia seventy-five years ago, the son of a Methodist minister, and moved to the Wheeling community when a small boy. Here he resided with his parents, attended the schools of his day, and when quite a young man was among the leading and most influential citizens of Mt. Zion and Wheeling communities. Until a few years ago "Uncle Jim" engaged in farming and became one of the most prosperous planters of the section. After retiring from this activity he became janitor of the Montgomery High School, which position he held for nine years. Ill health forced him to give up this active work and he spent his time among his children. He was a devout member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and was a regular attendant at all services when it was possible for him to be there. Surviving him are four sons, J. E. Strickland, member of the Winn Parish Police Jury from Ward 5 and former member of the Winn Parish School Board, of Wheeling, E. C. Strickland of Montgomery, J. R. Strickland of Terrel, Texas, Thomas Strickland of Highpoint, N. C.; two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Mays, Epps, La., and Mrs. E. S. Pharis, Natchitoches.
