Herbert Stroud, 41 years of age, was killed in action somewhere in the Southwest Pacific a message from the war department advised his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Stroud, of Sikes, last Saturday. He has served in the Marine Corps for the past twenty years, and was a gunner at the time of his death. Before entering service he attended the Sikes High School and would have graduated one month later had he continued his school work. Surviving are one daughter, Yvonne, of Seattle, Washington; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Stroud of Sikes; three brothers, ? W. Stroud of Winnfield, G. H. Stroud of New Orleans, Pvt. Herman Stroud who is serving somewhere in the European war theater; three sisters, Mrs. Gould Fitzgerald of New Orleans, Mrs. Grady Oliphant of Corvallis, Oregon, and Mrs. H. C. Thompson of Sikes.
