All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 31, 1951 Winnfield News-American Mrs. Stevens, 86, Prominent Citizen of Winn Succumbs Last rites were held Tuesday at the Couley Methodist Church for Mrs. Angieline Fletcher Stevens, 86 years and 10 months of age, of the Couley Community in Ward Five, who died August 27, following a month's illness. Services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. N. Baum, assisted by a former pastor, Sister Lula Wardlow, and the Rev. Henry Isgitt and the Rev. C. C. Lee, friends of the Stevens family. Pallbearers were Andrew Jones, Perry Killingsworth, Willard Smith, Jesse Logan, J. E. Rikard, and Gary Fletcher, and interment was in the cemetery at the Couley Methodist Church on Highway 84 under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home. Born October 27, 1864 at Verda, Mrs. Stevens affiliated with the Iatt Baptist Church in Grant Parish at the age of 13. With her family she moved to Winn Parish more than a century ago, and she was married to Alfred Stevens in 1883. Mr. Stevens, who also died at the age of 86, preceded his wife in death on October 5, 1944. Six children were born to this union and all are living today, including Jesse J. Stevens of Atlanta, Mrs. C. O. Nugent of Alexandria, Willie Stevens of Atlanta, Crawford H. Stevens of Colfax, Mrs. W. F. Owens of Baton Rouge, and J. Cheston Stevens, president of the Winn Parish School Board. She is survived also by one grandson, Louis Earle Stevens of Colfax. Mrs. Stevens always was prominently identified with church and civic endeavors in her community, and was beloved to all who knew her as a kindly citizen and mother, a fact attested to by the tribute paid from near and far in beautiful flowers, telegrams, and expressions of sympathy tendered her bereaved family.
