Rev. H. T. Isgitt officiated, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Grafton Shaw, and Rev. Robert L. Durr, with Elmo Mercer in charge of music. Members of the American Legion of Colfax acted as pallbearers and military services were conducted at graveside. Burial was under direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mr. Stevens was a native of Winn Parish, but had resided in Grant Parish for 27 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Zena Little Stevens; a son, Lewis Earl Stevens of Colfax; and three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Flo B Owens of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Ettie E. Nugent of Alexandria; two brothers, Jesse J. Stevens of Atlanta, Georgia and J. Cheston Stevens of Route 3, Winnfield. Mr. Stevens was a veteran of World War I. At the time of his illness, he was actively engaged in row crop and livestock farming in Grant and Rapides Parishes. He was a self-educated man, and his success as a master farmer can be attributed to the fact that he did his own thinking, coordinated with hard work and persistence. A large group of friends and relatives attended the final rites.
