All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: August 30, 1951 Winn Parish Enterprise Beloved Couley Resident Claimed By Death Aug. 27 Mrs. Rebecca Angie Fletcher Stevens of Couley, who would have been 87 years old Oct. 27, died at a Winnfield hospital at 12:20 noon, August 27, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Couley Methodist Church, at 5 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, with the Rev. Mrs. Lula Wardlow and Rev. A. N. Baum officiating. Assisting with the services were Rev. Henry Isgitt and Rev. C. C. Lee. Burial was in the Couley Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were J. E. Rikard, Gary Fletcher, Jesse Logan, Willard Smith, Perry Killingsworth, and Andrew Jones. Mrs. Stevens, born October 27, 1864, was the daughter of the late Rebecca O'Quin and James Fletcher of Grant Parish. She was married to Alfred Stevens in 1883 in Grant Parish and they established their home in the Couley Community of Winn Parish in about 1900. Mr. Stevens, a prominent farmer and stock raiser, passed away in 1944 at the age of 86. Mrs. Stevens, who affiliated with the Iatt Baptist Church at the age of 13, was widely known for her charming personality and kindly ways. She had legions of friends in Winn and Grant Parishes. She was the last of 14 children in her family. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ettie Nugent, Alexandria, Mrs. W. F. Owens, Baton Rouge, and Miss Millie Stevens of Couley; three sons, J. Cheston Stevens of the Couley Community, Crawford H. Stevens of Atlanta, Ga., and Crawford H. Stevens of Colfax; one grandchild, Louis Earle Stevens of Colfax.
