Mrs. Martha Ann Sutton, age 19, who died at Shreveport Tuesday morning, January 21, 2as buried at the Teagle Cemetery five miles from Winnfield Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock. Rev. W. D. Sherwood conducted the funeral services which was under the direction of the Winnfield Funeral Home, local funeral directors. The deceased is survived by her husband, Raymond Sutton, and two small children, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Varnell, four brothers, Frank, Mat, John R., and Willie Varnell, three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Bass, Mrs. Ola Hyde, Mrs. Mary Franks, all of Winnfield. =========== Submitter: Greggory E. Davies Date: 20 June 2004 Source: Winnfield News-American January 19, 1934 C. M. Swanson, Age 59 Years, Dies at His Home Thurs. Funeral Services to Be at 2:30 O'clock at First Baptist Church Carl M. Swanson, age 59, prominent business man, died at his home here Thursday morning at 4 o'clock after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Swanson was born in Denmark, fifty nine years ago, and at an early age went to Holland, where he lived to young manhood. In 1892 he came to the United States and was engaged in the timber business in various sections of Louisiana and Mississippi. In 1910 he went into the restaurant business in Winnfield and was engaged in that business at the time of his death. He married Miss Annie Machen of Winnfield and to that union was born four children, Jewel, Lamar, Clyde, and Annabelle. Jewel, Lamar, and Annabelle preceded him to their graves. Mrs. Swanson is survived by his widow and one son, Clyde, of Winnfield. He also leaves two sisters in Denmark and one brother in Dodson, Louisiana. He was an uncle of Dr. Dewitt Milam of Monroe. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church here today at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. B. C. Land, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Rev. Ellis Smith, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. ====== Submitter: Greggory E. Swanson, 69, of 2704 Navaho Trail, died at 12:40 p.m. in Alexandria Tuesday, June 26, 1973 in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. He was one of the founders of the American Supply Co., organized in 1946, and was chairman of the board at the time of his death. Born in Dodson, he was graduated from Dodson High School and Louisiana Polytechnic University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Alexandria, the Alexandria Lions Club, Jonesboro Masonic Lodge No. ____, F. & A. M., El Karubah Shrine Temple, and the Greater Alexandria-Pineville Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Nichols Swanson of Alexandria; a son, Johnny Mack Swanson of Alexandria; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Christensen of Euless, Texas; and four grandsons. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Bentley Sloane officiating. Entombment was in Alexandria Memorial Gardens mausoleum. ======
