All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 10, 1936 Winn Parish Enterprise (Note: Regarding the Swanson family of Winn Parish, I was in the Winn Parish Clerk of Court's office recently and Mr. Dick Watts, professional abstractor, was working on some land matters and pointed out to me a deed involving this family, and the original Swedish surname of the Swanson family appeared on that deed. I do not recall what the surname was, but one working this line could find it in some land records at the Winn Courthouse fairly easily if needed.) John Swanson Succumbs At His Home in Dodson Native of Denmark; Interment in Ruston Cemetery John Swanson, age about 79 years, a highly respected resident of the Dodson Community, and well-known throughout the parish, succumbed at his home Sunday afternoon following a several week's illness. "Uncle John" had been in bad health for several months. Born in Denmark, "Uncle" John came to Winn Parish when a young man, and had engaged in various enterprises. One other brother, C. M. Swanson, came over from Denmark a few years later and settled in Winnfield. He died two years ago. Mr. Swanson is survived by his wife, a son, John, Jr., some relatives in Denmark, his sister-in-law, Mrs. C. M. Swanson, and Clyde Swanson and wife of Winnfield and a host of friends to mourn his demise. The funeral services were conducted on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Baptist Church. Rev. Alwin Stokes of Winnfield, assisted by Rev. James Horton officiated. Interment was made in a Ruston Cemetery. The following acted as pallbearers: A. L. Mixon, W. W. Johnston, Johnnie Wright, Jimmie Wright, Bryant Sholars, Max Thieme, and J. M. Hyde.
