F. Swanson Held Sept. 16 Clyde F. Swanson, Sr., 56, employee of the Louisiana Department of Highways for 31 years, and Resident Maintenance Engineer at the time of his death, died in a Winnfield hospital at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 1966. He had been in ill health for a number of years. A native and lifetime resident of Winnfield, he was the son of the late C. M. Swanson and Anna Machen Swanson, prominent Winnfield civic and business leaders. The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church and in his early business career served Ward One as a member of the Police Jury for almost one term, resigning to accept an out of the parish position with the Federal Government. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Hixson Brothers Chapel with Dr. W. L. Holcomb and Rev. Richard Walton officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Hixson. Pallbearers were Jodie Higgs, Max Allen, Harold Austin, A. T. Whisenant, Artis Stroud, Esley Smith, Tuley Wells, and Ray Daughtry. Honorary pallbearers were members of District 58 and District Eight, Louisiana Department of Highways. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Corrine Talton Swanson; two sons, Clyde Swanson, Jr., of Houma and Mike Swanson of Winnfield; and one grandson, Mark Swanson of Houma. Among the out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Swanson and W. M. Biles of Alexandria; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Machen of Rusk, Texas; Dr. D. T. Milam and DeWitt Beckett of Monroe; J. C. Stevenson and Edgar Mitchell of Monroe; Mrs. Harvey Gainey of Ferriday; and Arthur Talton of Athens, Texas.
