Swanson, 59 years of age, died at his home here Thursday morning at 4 o'clock following an illness of several years. Mr. Swanson was known throughout this section and over the state as proprietor of Swanson's Restaurant. He and Mrs. Swanson have been in the restaurant business here for the past _____________. Carl M. Swanson was born in Denmark, May 16, 1874, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Swanson of that country. In the year 1892 Mr. Swanson came to the United States and joined his brother, John, who had come here about ten years before that time. The former engaged in the timber business in Louisiana. On January 25, 1899, he was married to Miss Annie Machen, a member of a prominent family of this parish. To this union four children were born, three of whom, Jewel, Lamar, and Annabelle, preceded Mr. Swanson in death. Besides his wife, the deceased is survived by one son, Clyde, of Winnfield; a brother, John of Dodson, La.; two sisters, Margaret and Annie, of Denmark; and one brother, Peter, of Denmark. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. B. C. Land, pastor in charge, assisted by Rev. Alwin Stokes and Rev. Ellis Smith. Interment will be in the Winnfield Cemetery. (Note: One day I was in Winn Parish Clerk of Court Donald Kelley's office and his brother in law, Mr. Dick Watts, abstractor, title, and land man, called me to the rear record room of the clerk's office. He pointed out to me an old land transaction involving the Swanson family. In that document Mr. Watts showed me, it gave the pure, native surname Mr. Swanson, which I don't recall. Anyone working this line can find this name, something like "Svenson" or close, on record at the Winn Parish Office of the Clerk of Court)
