All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 11, 1936 Winnfield News-American John Swanson, of Dodson, Is Claimed By Death Sunday Funeral Services Held Monday, Interment In Ruston Cemetery John Swanson, age 78, died at his home at Dodson Sunday afternoon at two- thirty o'clock following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Swanson had suffered sometime with heart attacks and his condition continued to grow worse, especially during the few remaining days. Mr. Swanson, older brother to the late Carl M. Swanson, and like his brother was one of the unique citizens of this parish. They were both natives of Denmark, Mr. John Swanson coming to American at the age of 19 in 1877. For many years he was engaged in the sawmill and timber business and being one of the pioneers in that business was among the first to ship timber and timber products to the New Orleans and other ports to be manufactured or exported. Before coming to this country he affiliated with the Lutheran Church and which faith he adhered to all his life. Surviving him are his widow and one son, John Swanson, Jr., and two grandchildren of Jonesboro. Funeral services were held Monday morning at ten o'clock at the Dodson Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Winnfield and Rev. J. A. Horton, pastor of the Dodson Baptist Church. Interment was in the Ruston Cemetery.
