Sowers The earthly existence of Samuel L. Sowers is no more. The nefarious scythe of time respects no station nor person nor principality. He was the ninth child of Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Sowers, born near Hickory Valley, Winn Parish, Louisiana, May 9th, 1894, and died in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D. C., January 17th, 1927, of pleurisy being just a few days prior stationed at the U. S. Military Camp, Fr. Pherson, Georgia, where he had been for eighteen months. Sam gave several years of his life in the service and defense of his country. He saw service in France, Belgium, England, Luxemburg, and Germany during the World War; engaged in battles of Aisne Marne Off. 7-18-18 to 7-19-18; Marluche Sector France 8-9-18 to 8-16-18; St. Mihiel Off. 9-8-18 to 9-11-18; Muse Argonne Off. (Champagne) 10-1-18 to 10-18-18; Muse Argonne Off. (Armistice) 11-18 to 11-16-18; was awarded victory badge, with three Bronze Stars, and received an Honorable Discharge August 16, 1919. After his discharge from the World War he returned home and remained about one year then reenlisted at Jackson Barracks and served three years at Panama Canal, and was discharged in the City of New York, again returning home and remained another year and reenlisted for another three year term, on which he was serving at the time of his death. He was wonderful as a friend and sacrificial as a servant. We can find solace, peace, and comfort, knowing that his work on earth has merited him to hear the mystic voice of the Father in Heaven say, "Well done, my true and faithful servant." The interment took place at the Winnfield Cemetery. He is survived by his father and mother and the following three brothers, George R., J. N., and Howard Sowers; three sisters, Mrs. B. F. Albritton, Mrs. C. J. Erskins, and Mrs. W. C. Abrams, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy in their irreparable loss.
