J. T. Dortch Is In Jail For Shooting Ab Tarter Saturday

J. T. Dortch of Georgetown is in jail here for the killing of Ab Tarter
Saturday afternoon.  It is alleged that Dortch drove up to the restaurant near
the railroad station where Tarter is reported to have been on Saturday
afternoon and shot him without warning.  He immediately called Sheriff S.
Perkins at Rochelle and told him of the shooting then drove to Rochelle and
gave himself up to one of Perkins' deputies.

A personal quarrel between Dortch and Tarter was the reason for the killing,
Dortch stated.

He was brought to Winnfield for safe keeping and will remain here until time
for his trial.
