All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: February 19, 1959 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Military Rites Held For Winnfield Airman Full military rites were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. for Basic Airman Harold Eugene Taylor, 20 year old Winnfield serviceman who was accidentally shot while overseas in France, February 5. Information received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Taylor of South Winnfield, said the airman was killed by the "accidental discharge of a .45 caliber pistol in the hands of another airman." Taylor was a native of Oklahoma, had lived in Winnfield most of his life. He attended Winnfield High School prior to his entry into service 29 months ago. He had been overseas 17 months and was stationed at Etain Air Force Base, near Paris, France at the time of his death. Funeral services were held at South Winnfield Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry M. Green, former pastor, and Rev. Charles Barfield, present pastor, officiating. Burial was in New Jerusalem Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. A military escort from England Air Force Base in Alexandria, with firing squad, bugler, and color guard, conducted the military rites at the graveside. Taylor is survived by his parents; two sisters, Misses Ruby Taylor and Alice Taylor; four brothers, Morris, Bobby, Johnny, and Charles Taylor, all of Winnfield; his grandfather, Jim Deaton of California; and his grandmother, Mrs. Mamie Glover of Bossier City.
