All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 27, 1945 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Accident Near Jonesboro Claims Life of Mrs. Monroe Taylor of Winn Victim Dies Two Hours After Collision With Doctor of Lafayette Mrs. Monroe Taylor, 24, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Jones of Flat Creek, died Monday afternoon in an ambulance enroute to Shreveport two hours after her car, a Ford convertible coupe, and a car driven by a Dr. Britton of Lafayette, had a head-on collision one and a half miles south of Jonesboro. The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. as Mrs. Taylor, who was employed in the abstract office of Mr. Shows in Jonesboro, was returning to her home in Winn Parish. According to reports, Mrs. Taylor started to pass several government trucks on the highway when the collision occurred. Both cars were completely demolished. Mrs. Taylor received internal and facial injuries. Dr. Britton, the driver of the other car, is in the Hodge Clinic in a critical condition with little hope for his recovery. Both legs were broken in addition to other injuries. Mrs. Taylor is the wife of Monroe Taylor, a veteran of five years service in the army, recently returned from overseas and discharged. They have one small child, James Monroe Taylor, Jr. The deceased is also survived by her parents; three sisters, Jewel Jones of Jackson, Miss., Lois and Jerelene Jones of Flat Creek; and three brothers, Levi, Jr., D. E., and John David Jones, all of Flat Creek. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Beech Creek Church with Rev. Lynn Browning officiating. Acting as pallbearers were I. J. McCartney, Troy Strange, Morgan Jones, Floyd Crain, J. E. G. Doremus, and C. R. Brock.
