Teagle Pioneer Citizen Claimed By Death Age 88 Years. Served In Confederate Army Four Years John Graham Teagle, age 88 years and 24 days, one of Winnfield's pioneer citizens and a Confederate Veteran passed away at his home Thursday evening, March 8, at 6:55 o'clock after a lingering illness. Mr. Teagle was born in Hardin County Tennessee, near Old Shiloh Church later known as the Shiloh Battleground. When fifteen years of age his family moved to Louisiana and located in Winn Parish. In the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted under the Confederate flag and served the entire period of the war. April 1865 he was discharged at Greensboro, N. C., while serving under the command of General Joseph E. Johnston. Mr. Teagle and Miss Martha Ann Bolton were married August 10th, 1865 and to this union were born ten children. Mrs. Teagle and four of the children preceded him in death. Since 1877 he has been a loyal and devout member of the Baptist Church and has always been an upright and law abiding citizen lending his influence in furthering all causes that would make our town and community a better place in which to live. Funeral services were conducted at the old Teagle Cemetery about four miles from Winnfield Friday afternoon at three o'clock by Rev. A. H. Cullen, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Surviving him are three daughters, Misses Helen and Katie Teagle and Mrs. W. R. Horton of Winnfield, and three sons, Dr. O. C. Teagle of Campti, J. O. Teagle of Calvin and J. M. Teagle of Winnfield. The out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Dr. O. C. Teagle and his family of Campti, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Teagle of Calvin, Mrs. Jake Kieber of Natchitoches, Mrs. W. N. Teagle of St. Maurice, Miss Irene Jackson of Ruston, Messers. Odus and Bob Jackson of Ruston, and Miss Eddie Lee Drummond of Calvin. (Anyone working the genealogy line on TEAGLE should contact Mr. R.
