Tedlie, Sr., Sunday, June, 8 John W. Teddlie, Sr., 78, second oldest native citizen of Winnfield, died of a heart attack at his home here Saturday afternoon, June 7, 1947. Although he had been in ill health for the past ten years, his death was sudden and unexpected. Mr. Teddlie was born a few miles west of Winnfield May 13, 1869, the son of the late William James "Uncle Buck" Teddlie and Lucy Ann Page Teddlie, who were among the first settlers of Winn Parish. He received his education in the schools of Winnfield, Calhoun Station and at Mt. Lebanon College. During the active years of his life, he was an outstanding leader in the business, political, and civic affairs of Winnfield and Winn Parish. At one time he served as deputy sheriff of Winn Parish, and later was connected as bookkeeper for a number of local firms. He and Mr. Whitley established the drug business which is now the Winnfield Drug Company. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World, and Knights of Pythias. In poliltics he was a Democrat of the old school and held several political posts in the parish and during the Parker and Fuqua administrations was chief field representative of the Louisiana Tax Commission. He was recognized as the best authority on Winn Parish history. His last active work was about 12 years ago when he directed a Federal Works project in collecting and assembling historical data concerning Winn Parish. This is the most comprehensive historical work ever compiled on Winn Parish. On December 27, 1894 he married Miss Althea Tena Curry, and to them were born three daughters and one son, all of whom survive. Two and a half years ago Mr. and Mrs. Teddlie celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Funeral services were held at the family residence Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Alwin Stokes in charge. Assisting were Rev. Fred Flurry and Rev. H. H. McBride. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were P. W. Roberts, Harper Terrill, George Larson, Shirley Jackson, Louis Wood, Ebb Machen, Hasson Morris, and Douglas Durrett. Honorary pallbearers were P. K. Abel, R. W. Oglesby, J. M. Hyde, Dr. F. C. Wren, J. R. Heard, Dr. J. R. McCartney, C. R. Wood, J. R. Russell, J. F. Walker, Mack Branch, A. S. Branch, Joe Emerson, J. B. Stothart, Matt Milam, J. W. Perdue, Charlie Walsworth, Dr. Roy Wright, Albert Smith, Houston Smith, John Emerson, Bryant Sholars, John Peters, R. S. Walsh, Harley Bozeman, Willie Gaar, Judge Cas Moss, R. D. Bevill, and J. D. Holmes. Besides his widow, Mrs. J. W. Teddlie, Sr., he is survived by one son, John W. Teddlie, Jr., three daughters, Mrs. Albert J. Nugent and Miss Lowice Teddlie of Winnfield and Mrs. A. M. Davis of Houston, Texas; one sister, Miss Cora Teddlie of Shreveport; two granddaughters, Mrs. Leslie Hill, Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Gloria smith of Winnfield, and one great granddaughter, Brenda Smith of Winnfield.
