Teddlie, Winn Resident for Many Years Dies Son of Confederate Officer Was 86; Survived by Seven (From the July 25, 1947 Winnfield News-American) Willis Perry Teddlie of Winn Parish departed this life on July 18, 1947, at the age of 86 years, 1 month, and 14 days. He was the son of Benjamin F. Teddlie, who was a commissioned officer in the Confederate Army when Willis was born. His father died when Willis was 4 years of age and his mother died when he was 14 years of age. He came to manhood without the counsel of parents. On December the 18, 1889, he married Miss Susie Straughan, whose father had also been a commissioned officer in the Confederate Army. To this union 9 children were born: Two of them, Mrs. Lois Hollingsworth and J. Frank Teddlie, preceeded the father in death. The seven living are Crockett Teddlie, Atlanta, E. V. Teddlie, J. M. Teddlie, and Mrs. E. C. Strickland, all of Montgomery, Mrs. Bessie Woodring and Mrs. Marie Lanes of Shreveport, and Mrs. Dan Ramsey of Lake Charles. Mr. Teddlie had been a devoted member of the Baptist church for more than 65 years and had lived a consistent Christian during the years he was a member of the church. The following words were spoken by him during his last days: "With simple dignity I have taken my place in my home, with simple dignity I have taken my place in my church, with simple dignity I have taken my place in my community, and with simple dignity I want to be laid to rest." His funeral was held at Mars Hill Church last Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. H. J. Mott, pastor of Laurel heights Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. Adkins, pastor of Montgomery Baptist Church, and Rev. Brown, pastor of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. A quartet from the local churches of that community gave the music for the services. Honorary pall bearers were: Congressman A. Leonard Allen, Sheriff Bryant Sholars, W. T. Norman, V. Matt Milam, Sr., John Sowers, Julius T. Long, Dr. N. M. Brian, J. M. Straughan, P. K. Abel, C. H. Ferguson, and L. Dow Wardlow. The deceased was a member of one of the pioneer families of Louisiana and left, besides relatives, a host of friends and all of whom mourn his going.
