The deceased was a native of Sikes, a graduate of Sikes High School, and resided in that community most of his life before moving to Virginia to make his home. No. 2 Native of Sikes Dies Jan. 27 In Virginia George Washington Thomas, 57, owner and operator of Thomas Barber Shop, Norfolk, Virginia, died in a Portsmouth hospital Tuesday, January 27, 1970 at 10:30 a.m. He was the husband of Mrs. Audrey Godfrey Thomas and a son of the late Young R. and Mrs. Anna Durrett Thomas. A native of Sikes, La., he lived in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area 16 years, lately at Janke Road, Virginia Beach. He retired in 1957 from the Marine Corps as a master sergeant after 20 years service. He was an elder in the Diamond Springs Christian Church and had charge of the stewardship and finance committees. He was secretary of the South Tidewater District of Christian Men's Fellowship for Disciples of Christ. He was a Royal Arch Mason and a member of the Master Barbers' Association. Funeral services were held at Diamond Springs Christian Church Saturday, January 31, at 2 p.m. with Rev. G. David Shreeves officiating. Interment with full military honors and Masonic rites were in Rosewood Memorial Park. Besides his widow, he is survived by a son, George R. Thomas of the Army, in Vietnam; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Louise Bridges of Roanoke, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Mae Sanders of Winnfield, La., and Mrs. Joy Bell Curry of Sikes, La.; and three brothers, Edgar R. Thomas of Chatham, La., John R. Thomas of Cheyenne, Wy., and Gene Thomas of West Monroe, La.
