A. Thomas, 69, Prominent Citizen, Lumberman, Dies Heart Attack Proves Fatal, Funeral Held Sunday Afternoon Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Kiah Arthur Thomas, 69, senior member of the Thomas Lumber Company, who died in a hospital shortly after suffering a heart attack at his home Saturday morning. Rites were conducted in the First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Fred S. Flurry, Methodist Church, the Rev. H. H. McBride, Baptist Church, and the Rev. C. M. Robinson, Downtown Assembly of God Church. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Active pallbearers included J. L. Prudhomme, Floyd Whatley, Robert Maxey, Earl Hemphill, George Tannehill, V. C. Robbins, Dallas McElroy, and Melton Hightower. Mr. Thomas was widely known in lumber circles in Louisiana, having operated sawmills in several parts of the state before establishing the Thomas Lumber Company here with his brother, L. R. Thomas, about 15 years ago. The Thomas Lumber Company is one of the largest sawmill and planing mills now operated in Central Louisiana. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Smith Thomas; a son, Tommie, and a daughter, Ruth, all of Winnfield; three brothers, L. R. Thomas of Winnfield, C. P. Thomas, of White Sulphur Springs, and R. D. Thomas of near Jena, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Tillman, White Sulphur Springs. Honorary pallbearers included R. T. Tucker, V. M. Milam, W. W. Allen, G. C. Taylor, J. F. Lovell, Sr., Harry Fuller, S. J. Dautrieve, S. N. Thomas, Thomas Plunkett, G. H. Waller, J. B. Stothart, T. M. Wyatt, Ardis McElroy, W. L. Sowers, Howard Parham. J. W. Capps, C. F. Walsworth, P. K. Abel, Bryant Sholars, Elzie Jennings, O. O. Roberts, George Cunningham, George Hightower, A. C. Buffington, John W. McCloy, M. F. Collier, W. E. Traylor, Woodrow Gough, and Arnett Garriss.
