Thompson Services for Donald E. Thompson were held at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under direction of Southern. Thompson, 67, of Winnfield, died about 9 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 1984 in Lincoln General Hospital, Ruston. Thompson was a Winn Parish deputy sheriff for 17 « years and retired in 1976 as the chief criminal deputy. He was a Springfield, Ill., native who moved to Winn Parish in 1946. He was a member of the First Baptist church of Winnfield. He was a staff sergeant in the U. S. Army in World War II and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart, along with other decorations. Survivors include his wife, Betty Waller Thompson of Winnfield; two sons, Robert I. Thompson of Ruston and David G. Thompson of Winnfield; one daughter, Dottie Barrier of Hull, Texas; two brothers, Robert N. Thompson of St. Louis, Mo., and James Thompson of Cape Coral, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
