Thomas Dies Here Feb. 18 After Short Illness R. L. Thomas, a native of Texarkana, Ark., and a resident of Winnfield for most of his 81 years, died in a Winnfield hospital Saturday, February 18, 1961, after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 19, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb, Baptist minister, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Acting as pallbearers were Herschel and Cecil Colwell, Al Cook, Othel Taylor, Robert Prentiss, and R. E. Crain. About nine months ago Mr. Thomas moved with his wife to Choudrant, La. to reside. He had returned to Winnfield about a week before his death to enter a local hospital. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Baptist Church and would have been 81 years of age on March 2. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sadie Colwell Thomas; three daughters, Mrs. C. Nicholson of Choudrant, Mrs. John C. Bland of Winnfield, and Mrs. R. J. Prentiss of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren, 19 grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Ellen Lyle of Atlanta, Texas, and one brother, J. N. Thomas of Queen City, Texas Out of town relatives attending the last rites for R. L. Thomas in Winnfield February 19 were Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Prentiss, Lou and Robert Prentiss of Dallas, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Cook of Little Rock, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. D. T. Colwell and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Colwell of Alexandria; Miss Olive Colwell of Lake Charles; Mrs. Thelma DeBerge, Mrs. R. E. Crain and Herschel Colwell, all of Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Bradford, Mrs. A. Koch, Mrs. Flo Caudle, and Mrs. J. R. Mann, all of Shreveport; Mrs. Bert Bradford of Columbia; Mr. Ben Bradford of Monroe; Mr. John J. N. Thomas, Queens City, Tex.; Mrs. Elley Lyle, Atlanta, Tex.; Mrs. Thelma Nicholson and Richard, of Choudrant, and Mrs. Virginia Porter of Ferriday.
