Thomas Fatally Stricken At Chatham Meeting Succumbs While Conducting Farmers Meeting at Chatham on Thursday Morning J. E. Thomas, agricultural agent for the Tremont and Gulf Railway Company, fell dead at a meeting of farmers in Chatham Thursday morning, according to information received at Winnfield today. Mr. Thomas, who had been connected with the Tremont and Gulf since 1932, had resided in Winnfield until several months ago he moved his family to Chatham, which was the center of his work. It was reported that he was holding a truck growers meeting and when he attempted to rise to the floor and address the group he fell to the floor dead. Mr. Thomas came to Winnfield from Grand Saline, Texas, where he had been connected in the truck growing industry there. He is survived by his widow and two sons, Carmen Thomas of Ruston agricultural agent for the Rock Island Railway and Melvin Thomas of Opelousas, who is also affiliated in the truck growing industry, and a daughter in Texas. Mr. Thomas was known throughout this parish and had been quite successful in organizing the farmers of this parish. No information could be secured concerning the funeral arrangements as the Enterprise went to press.
