A. Thomas, 69, of Winnfield, were held at the Presbyterian Church here at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Feburary 6, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, Rev. Fred Flurry, Rev. C. M. Robinson, and Rev. H. H. McBride officiating. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Thomas, a resident of Winn Parish for many years, died at a local hospital about 11 a.m., Saturday, February 5, after suffering a heart attack at his home on Pecan Street about 10:30 a.m. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, where he died about 30 minutes later. He was born in the Eden community in LaSalle Parish May 15, 1879, and moved to Winn Parish when a young man. For many years the Thomas family made their home in Atlanta before moving to Winnfield several years ago. He was a member of the Atlanta Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas had been associated with the lumber industry his entire adult life. He was widely known in lumber circles in Louisiana, having operated sawmills in several parts of the state, before establishing the Thomas Lumber Company here with his brother, R. L. Thomas, about 15 years ago. He formerly was associated with lumber interests in Atlanta. Mr. Thomas retired from the lumber business three years ago because of ill health. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Smith Thomas of Winnfield; one daughter, Virginia Ruth of Winnfield; one son, Tommy of Winnfield; three brothers, L. R. Thomas, Winnfield, C. P. Thomas, Trout, and Rube Thomas of near Jena; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Tillman of Trout. Pallbearers were J. L. Prudhomme, George Tannehill, Floyd Whatley, Robert Maxey, Earl Hemphill, V. C. Robbins, Dallas McElroy, and Melton Hightower. Honorary pallbearers were R. T. Tucker, V. M. Milam, W. W. Allen, G. C. Taylor, J. F. Lovell, Sr., Harry Fuller, S. J. Dauterive, S. N.
