Thornton, Sanitarian, is Fatally Stricken John Dewey Thornton, 52, Winn Parish Public Health Sanitariam, died Wednesday afternoon of a heart attack in a Monroe hospital. He was recuperating from an operation and apparently was doing well when he suffered the attack. Funeral services were held today at 3 p.m. in Sikes Baptist Church, of which he was a member. W. S. Emmons officiated. Burial was in Sikes Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Thornton had been employed by the Public Health unit since early 1949. He was a native of Sikes. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Audie Thornton, of Sikes; two sons, Donald of Baton Rouge and Perkins of Sikes; two daughters, Mrs. Jimmie Faye Box, Winnfield, and Dorothy Nell Thornton of Sikes; two brothers, Hershal of Monroe and Ray of Eros; three sisters, Mrs. Horace Thompson of Sulphur, Mrs. Marie Branch of Sikes, and Mrs. Effie Usrey of Baskin; and two grandchildren.
